Isaac Herzog urged the new administration, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to seek a
compromise with its political
opponents on judicial reform in a primetime address on Sunday night.
In recent weeks, he has urged the sides not to take a zero-sum approach in order to reach a "broad agreement" on the government's contentious proposals to overhaul the judiciary.
"We will all lose, the State of Israel will lose," the president says in the televised speech, which begins as the primetime nightly news broadcasts begin.
Herzog says the family of one victim asked him to "do everything to stop the madness" after a string of recent deadly terror attacks.
He claims that the schism is more than just a political crisis, and that "we are on the verge of constitutional and social collapse."
